Squarespace SEO Tips for Higher Rankings in 2024

Hi, I'm Henry Purchase, the founder of SEOSpace and Rough Water Media. I recently had a call with Squarespace website design expert Jessica, who used my Squarespace SEO plugin and got some amazing results. She told me how the plugin identified that some of her website pages were not showing up on Google

This is a common problem that can be frustrating for web designers and businesses. My detailed YouTube video includes some amazingly practical tips to help people fix this issue.

However, I thought it would be a great idea to collaborate with Jessica to spill some Squarespace SEO secrets here for the community. So, here I am with some insights based on Jessica’s experience working with Squarespace website designing and my knowledge of SEO.

In this blog, I’ll share my top 5 Squarespace SEO tips (and a bonus tip) to improve your Squarespace website’s SEO and help you rank higher. Let’s dig deeper.

Understanding SEO for Squarespace Websites

Squarespace is a popular website builder that makes it easy to create a professional-looking website. However, if you want your Squarespace website to be found by potential customers, you need to optimize it for SEO.

Anyone who understands the nitty-gritty of search engine optimization knows that SEO is not an easy road. Search engine optimization (SEO) is an ongoing process of improving the visibility of a website or web page in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Jessica here… wondering how Squarespace ranks in the world of SEO? Henry analyzed over 20,000 Squarespace websites to determine if Squarespace is good or bad for SEO.

When a website ranks higher in SERPs, it outranks the competition on Google and is more likely to be seen by potential customers. Let’s see how to make that happen.

5 Squarespace SEO Tips for High Ranking in SERPs

Whether you’re new to Squarespace or have been using it for years, these tips will help you make a difference.

  • Choose the right keywords.

  • Use keywords throughout your website.

  • Add blogs.

  • Build backlinks

  • Keep your website up to date.

1. Choose the right keywords.

The first step to optimizing your Squarespace website for SEO is to choose the right keywords. These are the words and phrases that people are likely to use when searching for your products or services.

Keyword research can be hectic for you, so work smart and use a keyword research tool to help you find the right keywords. You can use SEOSpace for efficient keyword research within no time.

Pick only the keywords closely relevant to your product or service with high search volume but low competition. If you choose otherwise, it will take more time to rank your website on Google.

Quick tip: Niche down to long-tail keywords, as they are less competitive and comparatively easier to rank for. Checkout this keyword research webinar for how to find these.

Once you have chosen your keywords, the next step is to use them throughout your website.

2. Use keywords throughout your website.

Now, it’s time to optimize your website’s content for the keyword you have chosen to rank your Squarespace website for. It includes your website’s title tag, meta description, and web content.

  • Optimize your SEO Title: The SEO title is the first thing people see when searching for your website on Google. It is important to include your target keywords in your title to describe your page’s content accurately and be 50-60 characters long.

  • Use primary keyword in the meta description: The meta description is the short snippet that appears under your website's title tag in search results. It describes what your web page is about. So, it is important to include your target keywords in your meta description and make it 150-160 characters long.

  • Optimize your content: Finally, optimize your website's content, including blog posts and web pages. Include your target keyword in each web page’s content while aiming for optimal keyword density. Keyword stuffing can affect your SEO negatively, so avoid it at all costs.

3. Add blogs.

Adding high-quality blogs can help your Squarespace websites rank higher. You may already know that Google ranks pages that are helpful for users in terms of offering what they have been looking for higher. It prefers long-form content such as informative and interesting blogs.

Your blogs must be optimized for the search engines but not be stuffed with keywords. Low-quality content with a high density of keywords isn’t valuable for the audience and is less likely to rank higher.

4. Build backlinks.

Backlinks are crucial for high SERP ranking, so you must have them on your website. They are the links from other websites to your website. Links from high-domain authority websites are a signal to Google that your website is credible and authoritative.

For effective link building, you can opt for guest blogging, participating in forums, and submitting your website to directories. Use your professional network to connect with bloggers, influencers, and website owners for collaboration to get backlinks for your website. The more reputable the source, the better.

Jessica again… Never underestimate the power of backlinks. Henry has an impressive graph showing how blogs and backlinks dramatically increased the amount of traffic to his website.

5. Keep your website up-to-date.

Lastly, it’s time for regular updates. Remember, Google loves fresh content, so you should love it too. Regularly update your website with new blog posts, product pages, and other content. Update the stats, eliminate outdated information, and include new information.

You can also update images, change website layout, or make any other necessary changes to ensure that the content is fresh. Do some research to analyze your competition, especially the ones ranking above your website. See what they are doing better than you, plan how you can implement it on your website, and execute your strategy.

Your goal shouldn’t be copying others but improving your website while adding value for your target audience. An updated website remains attractive for visitors and Google, too!

Bonus Tip: Use a Squarespace SEO plugin.

There are many SEO plugins available for Squarespace, so make the most of them. These plugins can help you with tasks such as keyword research, optimizing your website's title tags and meta descriptions, and building backlinks.

I recommend using the SEOSpace Squarespace SEO plugin, which is trusted by over 2,000 businesses and offers you a comprehensive solution to all your SEO needs.

Conclusion

By following these tips, you can improve your Squarespace website's SEO and boost its visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs). However, you must be patient because SEO takes time. You won’t see results overnight, but with consistent efforts over time, you will gradually see your SEO efforts paying off.

I hope these tips help you improve your Squarespace website's SEO and get your pages indexed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact SEOSpace.
